VANCOUVER - The Brock Badgers wrestling team travelled to Vancouver this past weekend to compete in two tournaments. The first was a national team selection tournament and the second was an international tournament that featured Olympic and World medalists from Russia, the United States and India.

In the Canadian tournament, Alex Brown (Ottawa, Ont.), who dropped down to the 74 kg weight category from his normal 84 kg weight class, came home with the gold medal winning four consecutive matches against nationally ranked wrestlers. Brown placed fourth the following day. C.J. Hudson (Calgary, Alta.) finished second at 60 kg winning three and losing in the final to Vancouver's Nick Ghaeini in three rounds. He avenged that loss the following day by defeating Ghaeni for the bronze in the international tournament.

Jessica Bondy (51 kg) led the way on the Women's side defeating two-time World Junior Champion Whitney Condor of the United States in an exciting final. Michelle Fazzari (Caledonia, Ont.) finished second at 59 kg losing in the final to Amanda Gherhart from Vancouver. Alana King had a solid finish by placing third at 48 kg, Diana Ford placed fourth at 51 kg, Jasmine Mian was fifth at 48 kg, Debra Jehu (Greenbank, Ont.) finished fifth at 67 kg and Celeste Rodrigues took sixth at 59 kg.

Both the women and men finished third in the team competition. The team is back in action at the U of T Invitational this weekend in Toronto.
